Rest 9
The players' rest-break rules from the 2023 to 2027 collective agreement.
Six days between games
CBA-01Players cannot be asked to play again until the sixth day after their last game, unless the game is one of the allowed five-day breaks.
At most three short breaks a season
CBA-02A club can have no more than three five-day breaks in a season.
Short breaks only in the home-and-away season
CBA-03Five-day breaks are allowed only during the home-and-away season, never in finals.
Extra rest beside a short break
CBA-04A five-day break needs longer breaks around it. One option is seven days before the preceding game and six days after the short-break game. The other is six days before the preceding game and seven days after the short-break game. A bye counts as the longer break.
The opponent has at most six days’ rest
CBA-05When a club has a five-day break, its opponent must have a break of no more than six days.
Three rounds between a club's short breaks
CBA-06If a club has two five-day breaks, they must be at least three rounds apart.
Only one interstate trip around a short break
CBA-07Around a five-day-break game, at most one of the two games on either side can involve interstate travel. If a bye follows the short-break game, both can be interstate.
No short break after a Perth trip
CBA-08A five-day break cannot follow a game that required travel to Perth.
Perth clubs: no short break then travel
CBA-09For West Coast and Fremantle, a five-day break cannot follow a home game in Perth unless the short-break game is also in Perth.

Not in force for 2027 2Retired rules, and rules with nothing to act on this season. Hidden from fan views.
No afternoon games at the old Perth ground
VT-09A 2013 rule ruled out Saturday-afternoon and early-Sunday games at Subiaco. Perth's games have since moved to Perth Stadium, which hosts afternoon games, so the ban no longer describes practice. The model does not enforce it.
No rested club against an unrested one
BY-02In seasons where some clubs get two byes, a club that has already had both does not play a club still waiting for its first. In 2027 every club has exactly one bye, so there is nothing for this rule to act on.
