What it means
A five-day break needs longer breaks around it. One option is seven days before the preceding game and six days after the short-break game. The other is six days before the preceding game and seven days after the short-break game. A byeA round in which a club does not play.Read more in the glossary counts as the longer break.
Why it exists
Makes sure a short turnaround is balanced by extra recovery nearby.
For example
If Carlton plays Saturday, then Thursday, it has a five-day break. It needs seven days before Saturday and six after Thursday, or six before Saturday and seven after Thursday.
