What it means
Last season’s ladder divides clubs into three groups of six. Each club normally has two or three double-upA pair of clubs that meet twice in the season. From 2026, up to four within its own group are allowed, with a preferenceAn aim the model balances against other aims within the must-follow rules. Brisbane Lions, top of the 2026 ladder, plays mostly other top-six sides twice, and fewer bottom-six sides twice.
